Proposition One ($23,510,000)

 

Renovation of existing Whitney Intermediate and Middle School buildings to serve 

Grades 3-5, District Administration and Special Education Co-op

  • Campus is experiencing drainage issues
  • Roof has exceeded life expectancy and is causing building leaks
  • Building will receive miscellaneous repairs to classrooms, roof repair, site drainage correction, a new secure entry with access control and asbestos abatement, if needed

New Middle School for Grades 6-8


      Current Facility:

  • Traffic congestion due to mixing parent and bus traffic for two campuses in one location
  • Undersized for student enrollment – 7 classrooms in portable buildings
  • Some classroom sizes below state requirements
  • Unmonitored points of entry into the campus, allowing unauthorized access
  • Currently does not support modern technology and electrical infrastructure requirements

      New Facility:

  • Will be built adjacent to high school on land owned by the District
  • Will include classrooms that meet state requirements, a computer classroom and science lab for each grade level, a band hall, choir room, art lab/theatre, library with research lab, cafeteria, kitchen and gymnasium
  • Will include separate drives for bus and parent traffic
  • Will include a secured main entry, access control and visual control of each classroom wing
  • Will include technology for students and teachers, such as computers and projectors

 

Proposition Two ($1,135,000)

 

New 8-Lane Track at high school/new middle school campus

  • Will include field events, bleachers for 250, a concession/restroom facility and lighting
  • Will allow high school students to stay on campus for track and field activities, no longer requiring the district to provide bus transportation to and from the middle school where the current track is located
  • Will be able to host UIL track meets
